What is the Sustainable Tridonic programme?

The Sustainable Tridonic Programme consists of five pillars: cradle to cradle, carbon neutrality, sustainable packaging, social responsibility, and communication & training.

Why is sustainability important to Tridonic?

The lighting industry can and must contribute to the preservation of our planet and its natural resources. As a technology company, we see it as our responsibility to adapt our processes and products with regard to sustainability. We want to achieve this together with our customers, employees and suppliers.

What role does sustainability play in our corporate strategy?

The global sustainability goals and the associated regulations (due diligence, the EU’s Ecodesign Directive, EU taxonomy etc.) require a profound transformation. That’s why Tridonic’s sustainability strategy is fully incorporated within the company and supported by the management in all its divisions. The Sustainable Tridonic Programme is an important part of our corporate strategy. The sponsor of the Sustainable Tridonic Programme is CEO Hugo Rohner.

What is Tridonic’s goal for carbon neutrality?

The reduction of CO2 emissions forms a central part of Tridonic’s sustainability activities. The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025 (SCOPE 1 and SCOPE 2 according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol).

What is the basis of the system for measuring CO2 emissions?

Tridonic supports the Zumtobel Group’s sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Standard (GRI Standard), which is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Our support also includes our key performance indicators, which we measure on a monthly basis and which are also based on the standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. CO2 reporting is becoming an essential part of corporate reporting. It is therefore an important lever in underpinning the process of change within the company towards more sustainability with measurable indicators.

What is currently being measured?

Tridonic has been using a measuring system since 2014. It includes all production sites worldwide and has been continuously revised and expanded. As of the start of the 2021/2022 financial year, it has been based on the GRI reporting standards and includes the following aspects:<ul><li>Energy (GRI 302 Energy)</li><li>Water (GRI 303 Water and Effluents)</li><li>Greenhouse gas emissions (GRI 305 Emissions)</li><li>Waste disposal (GRI 306 Waste)</li><li>Renewable energies’ percentage of total energy</li></ul>

What kind of packaging does Tridonic use?

Our packaging is our products’ “signature”. The Sustainable Tridonic programme puts the customer first, which is why we are aiming to reduce packaging waste at our customers’ sites. In addition, we will switch to fully recyclable packaging materials, preferring materials such as cardboard, biodegradable plastic and PET plastic. We are also currently working on a new packaging design for the LED modules. Our aim is to ensure that all our product packaging is 100 per cent recyclable by the end of 2024.

What are Tridonic’s social responsibility goals and initiatives?

Social responsibility is an essential part of the Sustainable Tridonic programme. Tridonic distinguishes between social responsibility within the company and within the supply chain.It is important to us that our raw materials are sourced from responsible partners, which is why we require our suppliers to comply with our Code of Conduct. In addition, supplier audits are carried out on a regular basis. A sustainability assessment is mandatory for suppliers in high-risk regions. Tridonic is a member of the UN Global Compact, respects human rights and does not condone any processes or projects where child or forced labour is suspected.When it comes to corporate social responsibility, we want to go beyond what is mandatory. Our approach is therefore to make our products and their processes more sustainable than is legally required.In the 2022/23 financial year, the Zumtobel Group’s Code of Conduct for Business Partners was fully adapted and adjusted with regard to the environmental aspects to be taken into account in due diligence.The following conventions have been incorporated:<ul><li>Minamata Convention</li></ul>on the Control of Emissions and Releases of the Heavy Metal Mercury, Prevention of Significant Negative Impacts on Ecosystems, Prevention of Hazards to Human Health. <ul><li>Stockholm Convention</li></ul>on the Prohibition of Persistent Organic Pollutants, Ban on Production and Use, Restriction of Production and Use.<ul><li>Basel Convention</li></ul> on the Control of Transboundary Movements (Imports and Exports) of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal.Workforce satisfaction is another important factor for any company. It’s crucial that all employees understand that sustainability is the key to the future of the company. Staff training and communication are therefore important components of the programme.Employees from all departments are invited to contribute their ideas on all aspects of sustainability. The team provides regular updates on the project results and progress. In addition, new employees are introduced to the Sustainable Tridonic programme during the onboarding phase. Buyers are also obliged to participate in sustainability training. All customer-facing employees also receive mandatory training on the programme and on how their customers can benefit from sustainability.
