Rhein-Nahe-Eck

Location: Bingen/Germany
Products: , TALEXXeos P211-2, TALEXXmodule P007

Consistently high humidity levels and frequent flooding were the two major problems that had to be overcome in connection with the new lighting system at Rhein-Nahe-Eck and on a near-by cycle bridge in Bingen. TALEXX LED modules were chosen because they offer low maintenance, long life and impressive energy savings.

At Rhein-Nahe-Eck the river Nahe flows into the Rhine and is the gateway to the World Heritage Site of Mittelrheintal. To coincide with the 2008 Garden Show in Bingen the “Eck” was given a new look and a new lighting system. The purpose of the newly installed lighting was to enhance the architecture. This also applied to the steps leading down to the riverbank, with the added requirement that the lighting for the steps should make them safer to use. The cycle bridge over the river Nahe was also brightened up. Here too, the requirement was a visually attractive appearance coupled with adequate lighting levels to ensure greater safety.

A difficult challange – and an elegant solution

The challenges for both projects were identical – the geographic location was demanding not only because of the high humidity Recessed floor lights with LED modules from the TALEXX series meet these demands perfectly and also feature a low surface temperature and small unobtrusive casing. The life of the LEDs is more than 50,000 hours.

With a color rendering index of Ra > 85 TALEXXeos P211-2 in warm white is ideal for illuminating the stone walls alongside the steps so they appear attractive and natural. Each recessed floor light contains four TALEXXeos P211-2 units together with a spot lens and a fresnel lens. Each light has a total wattage of only 4.8 W. The luminous intensity of TALEXXeos makes this LED an ideal light source for such applications.

Bright yet economical

86 TALEXXmodule P007 in warm white bathe the cycle bridge in a pleasant bright glare-free light. The specifications for the LED modules used here were 2 W, 230 VAC and IP 65. IP 65 means that the lighting components are protected against the ingress of dirt and water. The P007 units are intended for a variety of applications including safety, information and orientation lights and are therefore ideal for the river crossing. An extremely wide beam angle ensures for uniform illumination, and the low profile and simple installation allow the lights to be fitted in narrow supports, as required here on the bridge. The entire bridge lighting has a connected load of only 176 W.

The concept devised by FLASHAAR Ingenieure GmbH for Rhein- Nahe-Eck shows that t products are the right choice even in difficult and unusual conditions. They really show the Rhein-Nahe-Eck in their best light.
